BACnet at the Light + Building 2024

12.01.2024 – The joint BACnet booth of the BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) at Light + Building 2024 (March 3-8, 2024) will once again provide a large and exciting information platform on the latest developments and proven solutions in building automation. Numerous exhibitors from the international BACnet community will be presenting their products, solutions, and services alongside the latest developments in Hall 9.0, Stand E11. Representatives of BIG-EU will also be on hand to provide information about BACnet technology, the BIG-EU organization, and its many activities.

One focus will again be BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC). BACnet/SC creates the conditions for IT-secure cross-manufacturer networking of building technology and turns the BACnet communication protocol into secure building automation. BACnet/SC is a virtual data link layer for the existing BACnet stack based on the WebSocket protocol. It is based on proven security standards from the IT sector and systematically protects the building infrastructure against attacks. Numerous manufacturers have already equipped their products with BACnet/SC and will be presenting them at Light + Building.

A second focus is the use of BACnet in facility management. The building sector is a key lever for achieving the goal of climate neutrality. This is why ever higher demands are being placed on the energy efficiency of buildings. This is where building automation comes into play as the central tool for the operation of technical building equipment (TBE – Technical Building Equipment). An important prerequisite for optimizing building operation is the ability to network the various parts of the building services, to control them, and to continuously improve operation. BACnet provides the basis for this. As an open standard, BACnet can integrate and support facility management technologies, such as energy management or infrastructural processes (e.g., sensor technology in the area of cleaning), and thus ensure efficient building operation.

Networking event and presentation of the BIG-EU Award

As last year for the 25th anniversary of the BIG-EU, there will once again be a large networking event on Tuesday, March 5, at the joint BIG-EU stand from 6 p.m., to which all trade fair participants are invited. The fact that the BIG-EU always has its sights set on the future will be demonstrated by the presentation of the BIG-EU Award, which will be presented for the second time on this occasion. This prize was created by the BIG-EU in 2023 to recognize outstanding student theses in connection with the BACnet protocol as part of its promotion of young talent.

About the BIG-EU The BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) promotes the use of the world’s leading BACnet communication standard ISO 16484-5 in building automation and security technology in Europe. It was founded in 1998 by 18 building automation companies and today has over 120 members from all regions of Europe as well as Australia and North America.

The objectives of the BIG-EU are to represent European interests in the further development and application of the BACnet standard – particularly with regard to energy efficiency and the reduction of the CO2 footprint in the building sector. This takes place in close exchange of information with the ASHRAE committee responsible for BACnet, “SSPC 135,” as well as with the global BACnet community.
