- Education sessions will cover an introduction to BACnet, BACnet cybersecurity, and the new BACnet online ecosystem
- Booth C5400 will highlight advances in BACnet product testing and certification, ways for companies to accelerate their BACnet Secure Connect capabilities and testing, and the latest in free educational resources through The BACnet Institute
- Industry experts, including BACnet International staff and member company volunteers, will be on hand to answer questions on security, testing or any other BACnet-related issues
- There will be 82 corporate member companies exhibiting, and company booths will showcase 929 BTL certified products
BACnet International, an industry association that facilitates the successful use of the BACnet protocol in building automation and control systems through interoperability testing, educational programs and promotional activities, will once again be presenting education sessions and hosting an exhibit booth (C5400) at the 2023 AHR Expo in Atlanta, GA.
BACnet International’s education sessions will take place on Monday, February 6, 2023 in Room B314 of the Georgia World Congress Center. The topics to be covered include an introduction to BACnet, deploying BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC), the release of a new BACnet guide specification, and the launch of a global resource that puts the entire BACnet community at your fingertips.
The BACnet International booth will feature information on various association offerings, including the BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC) Reference Implementation, the free educational resources available on The BACnet Institute (TBI) website, and the BACnet Testing Laboratories (BTL). The booth will be staffed by BACnet International personnel as well as volunteers from the association’s corporate member companies.
There are many exhibitors that will be showcasing their BTL-listed products – products that have successfully completed BACnet conformance testing. There will be 929 BTL certified products at the show and attendees will be able to identify the companies with these products by the appearance of a BTL Mark carpet sticker in their booths.
“Our presence at the 2023 AHR Expo shows our deep commitment to providing easily accessible information and education on the BACnet protocol,” stated Andy McMillan, BACnet International president and managing director. “We’re proud to be involved with the show’s free industry sessions and once again host a full day of education to increase the understanding of BACnet and expand its adoption.”
BACnet Secure Connect Reference Implementation
In an effort to accelerate the adoption of BACnet/SC for the greater good of the building automation industry, BACnet International created the community-vetted implementation for BACnet/SC. This Reference Implementation was created as part of BACnet International’s BACnet/SC Interoperability Acceleration Program. It provides building automation system suppliers with a quick way to ramp up their in-house BACnet/SC testing. It includes a set of capabilities and scripts that enable manufacturers to rapidly develop and test their own BACnet/SC implementation. It’s available through open source on SourceForge (sourceforge.net/projects/bacnet-sc-reference-stack).
The BACnet Institute
The BACnet Institute (thebacnetinstitute.org) is an online learning environment that serves as a central source for globally relevant information and education related to BACnet-based Building Automation System implementation. It offers a wide breadth of free resources in different languages and levels of expertise for key professionals within the buildings industry. These resources not only cover the basics of a BACnet-based system, but topics such as interoperability, devices, specifying, networking, and security. There are over 150 articles and lectures, a knowledge-sharing forum, and three interactive on-demand courses that offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Professional Development Hours (PDHs) upon completion.
BACnet Testing Laboratories
BACnet Testing Laboratories (btl.org) was established by BACnet International to support compliance testing and interoperability testing activities. BTL provides users with assurance that a product has passed the industry standard BACnet conformance tests conducted by a recognized, independent testing organization. Products that have successfully completed this BACnet conformance testing are awarded a BTL Certification and are eligible to use the BTL Mark. Only these products are eligible to be included in the BTL Listing of Tested Products database (bacnetinternational.net/btl)
About BACnet International
BACnet International is an industry association that facilitates the successful use of the BACnet protocol in building automation and control systems through interoperability testing, educational programs and promotional activities. BACnet International oversees operation of the BACnet Testing Laboratories (BTL) and maintains a global listing of tested products database. The BACnet standard was developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and has been made publicly available so that manufacturers can create interoperable systems of products. BACnet International complements the work of the ASHRAE standards committee and BACnet-related interest groups around the world. BACnet International members include building owners, consulting engineers and facility managers, as well as companies involved in the design, manufacture, installation, commissioning and maintenance of control equipment that use BACnet for communication.
