Reference Implementation and System Test Bench to assist Building Automation System providers with in-house testing
BACnet International has announced the release of the BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC) Reference Implementation and System Test Bench, tools that provide manufacturers with powerful and effective device and system test capabilities. BACnet International is an industry association that facilitates the successful use of the BACnet protocol in building automation and control systems through interoperability testing, educational programs and promotional activities.
The Reference Implementation and System Test Bench were developed to provide Building Automation System (BAS) providers with a quick way to ramp up their in-house BACnet/SC testing. The Reference Implementation includes a set of capabilities and scripts that can be used across multiple platforms. The System Test Bench is a set of configurable tools built on the Reference Implementation that enables rapid creation of network environments with BACnet/SC nodes, hubs and routers to support testing of BACnet/SC devices in various system configurations. The tools also facilitate testing of BACnet/SC devices over a broad range of system scale, ranging from just a few devices to over a thousand.
“We know there’s a lot of pressure on BAS manufacturers to get BACnet/SC products to market,” stated Andy McMillan, president and managing director of BACnet International. “We’re happy to provide these tools which help shorten the learning curve needed to develop in-house BACnet/SC testing capabilities.”
The Reference Implementation and System Test Bench were provided to participants as part of BACnet International’s BACnet/SC Interoperability Acceleration Program, which provides BAS suppliers with the knowledge and skills necessary to incorporate BACnet/SC in their products and solutions and a fast track to developing in-house technical knowledge.
For those companies not currently part of the program, immediate access to the reference implementation and test tools can be obtained by joining the program. The software is expected to become available through an open source repository in July of 2021.

About BACnet International
BACnet International is an industry association that facilitates the successful use of the BACnet protocol in building automation and control systems through interoperability testing, educational programs and promotional activities. BACnet International oversees operation of the BACnet Testing Labs (BTL) and maintains a global listing of tested products. The BACnet standard was developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and has been made publicly available so that manufacturers can create interoperable systems of products. BACnet International complements the work of the ASHRAE standards committee and BACnet-related interest groups around the world. BACnet International members include building owners, consulting engineers and facility managers, as well as companies involved in the design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and maintenance of control equipment that uses BACnet for communication.
